Parents,
We have a busy week coming up. Please check your calendar each day so you and your child don’t miss out on anything!!
Friday is hat day/ Gator day, so bring $1.00 and wear a hat to raise money for our Character Education fund.
Monday, September 22 will be the first day for the week long book fair.
Tuesday, September 23 is grandparents day, Open House, and Scouts night. Please plan to come out Tuesday and meet your child’s teacher, see what we are doing in first grade, and check out what the Scouts have to offer your child.
Candy bars will also be on sale Tuesday, Sept. 23 for $1.00
If you would like to conference with me prior to Open House, please let me know. Otherwise, I hope to see all of you on Tuesday!
As the 2010-2011 year jumps off, I want to say welcome! Here, you will find information about what's going on in your child's classroom, as well as links and pictures. Please feel free to visit this site regularly to make sure you are up to date on what's happening.

America, the Beautiful
We will be discussing the lyrics and meaning of this song throughout the week. It may be fun for you to view pictures of America with the song to discuss with your child.
Parts of a plant
The focus in science this week is plants. We will be learning about the parts of a plant, as well as the basic needs of plants (air, soil, water, sunlight). Please encourage your child to think about plants as living objects with needs.

Thank You, Parents!
Parents, I want to thank you for everything you have done thus far to help your first grader succeed. Our class is making great strides thanks to your support.
Please continue to read *with* your child on his/her AR book. Children are taking tests on the stories from their library books, and need to really understand the story, not just read the words.
In the coming days, we will continue to work on data and graphs for math, making predictions in reading, and learning about nouns for writing. Please discuss these topics when possible with your child. They are really working hard and we should praise their efforts daily.
Remember, picture day is Wednesday, September 10.
Also, Grandparent's day is Tuesday, September 23 as well as First Grade PTO.
